Abstract & description
[edit source]Abstract
[edit source]This will tackle how we intend to preserve the local languages in the Philippines thru compiling of audio recordings of literature, prayers, and chants in Wikimedia Commons.
Description
[edit source]We aim to showcase how thru this project we were able to maximize the use of the Wikimedia Commons on preservation of languages, culture, and literature. This also aims to inspire other communities to do the same project and create their own spaces for language preservation advocacies thru different Wikimedia projects, especially the Wikimedia Commons. This will briefly discuss the main strategies we done for the development of Wikiboses and so as the struggle of gathering contributions for the completion of this project.
Further details
[edit source]Qn. How does your session relate to the event themes: Diversity, Collaboration Future?
This session focuses on diversity, especially since there are several languages here in the Philippines, being an archipelago. We intend to preserve several languages, especially those indigenous languages that are considered endemic. The team cannot single-handedly do this, and we intend to partner with several cultural and literary groups in the country. Later on, as this developed to our perceived outcome, we foresee on collaborating with other regions in the ESEAP to start the same initiative. In the future, we are positive that this initiative could possibly have its own wiki space exclusively for audio recordings that would work similarly with platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, etc.
