Abstract

[edit source]

Wikimedia Czech Republic started the Senior Writing Wikipedia programme in 2014. While the core principles remain the same, over the years we have introduced a number of additional features and innovations to keep seniors engaged in the community for the long term. How do we make the magic happen?

Description

Qn. How does your session relate to the event themes: Diversity, Collaboration Future?

The programme Seniors write Wikipedia is THE programme where we actively and long-term contribute to diversity a) of the community b) of the content at Wikimedia projects.

We run this programme in essential collaboration with other partners and stakeholders - with libraries, with trainers, lecturers and volunteers from the community. We are actively sharing the knowhow and the triggers we found on the way.

Future - the future is now. If we don’t work on the future today, there will be no future. If we don’t engage the nowadays seniors, they might be gone in few years and we will miss their unique life experience at Wikipedia. The future is often about learning from past. We learn with them, they keep learning new skills with us up to their late years. The programme is definately helping to fulfil the movement strategy.
