Basque Wikimedians User Group have been working in their education program for five years, and the first phase of this project is ending. We will discuss what we have learnt and which are our next steps after having more than 5.000 students writing Wikipedia, creating a children Encyclopedia (Txikipedia) and adding a multimedia project called Ikusgela.

After five years of BWUG Education program, the first phase is finishing. Five years ago, we proposed to rise the quality of the articles that secondary students needed, and we did it with University students and lecturers. Five years later, 12% of Basque Wikipedia has been written by students, we have created an Encyclopedia for children, more than 1% of Basque speakers have contributed to the Basque Wikipedia and we have a thriving ecosystem.
One of our new goals is about multimedia. Students and young users are relying more on multimedia content to learn than in text, with platforms like YouTube or even TikTok centering the learning process. Large platforms are creating video content for profit, but this is not freely available or outside major languages. Ikusgela is a project by Basque Wikimedians User Group to close this gap and provide a free video every week on varied content. We publish videos on phillosophy, economy, ecology and provide fact-checking methodologies to videos.

Qn. How does your session relate to the event themes: Diversity, Collaboration Future?
The session is completely related, as diversity and collaboration is in the core of video production: new audiences, new formats and language diversity drive our project.
Adding content in a minority language and doing it with the collaboration of all kind of institutions is related to the event theme.
