I began editing Wikipedia in 2005 and attend my first Wikimedia event at the British Museum in 2011. As a Master’s student at the University of Cambridge, I completed the first academic study of Instagram, focusing on what motivates public creativity on digital networks. From 2011 to 2015, I worked in digital marketing in New York City and played a lot of soccer. Today, I am Director of Brand at the Wikimedia Foundation. I lead a team of designers, creative leaders, and brand strategists that we call the “Brand Studio.” Our goal is raise awareness and usage of Wikimedia projects around the world, expanding the global reach of free knowledge. Abstract & description
[edit source]Abstract
[edit source]Join members of the Wikimedia Sound Logo team to learn about the sound logo, how to use it and to inform the community usage guidelines for the Sound of All Human Knowledge.
Description
[edit source]The aim of this workshop is for community members to learn about the sound logo and begin to use it well. Members of the Sound Logo team will take attendees through some of the patterns that emerged in how contestants interpreted Wikimedia through sound, how the team got from the winning submission to the registered trademarked sound logo and introduce the community usage guidelines. During the Q&A section, the team invite community questions but also invite community answers to the question “how else would you use the sound logo?” with the objective of better informing the usage guidelines. We ask Wikimedians to come to this workshop equipped with answers to this very important question.

[edit source]Qn. How does your session relate to the event themes: Diversity, Collaboration Future?
For many people, seeking information has brought us to listening experiences, from podcasts to virtual voice assistants. Content from Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects – the contributions of hundreds of thousands of volunteers for more than twenty years – is everywhere too, but not identified correctly in audio-only settings. To address this gap, the Wikimedia Foundation created a global contest to find a sound logo, the Sound of All Human Knowledge.
As we move towards implementation of the sound logo, we are inviting our diverse community to contribute current and future use cases that will collaboratively inform the community usage guidelines.
Qn. What is the experience level needed for the audience for your session?
