Abstract

[edit source]

This talk highlights the work of Wikimedia Chile in promoting digital literacy among senior citizens. Additionally, the talk shows the methodology used in the project, where the objective was to empower senior citizens to navigate the digital world with confidence and accuracy.

Description

[edit source]

During the past year, Wikimedia Chile has been working to promote digital literacy among senior citizens, recognizing that this group often faces barriers when it comes to accessing and understanding information in the digital age. The objective of this talk is to showcase the work that has been done by WMCL in this area, and to introduce the methodology of the workshop that has been developed to empower seniors with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate the digital world.

Our main objective was to prevent the spread of misinformation and to promote the use of reliable sources. Our workshop provided tips and strategies for identifying and verifying trustworthy sources of information, including Wikipedia. By teaching senior people how to distinguish between credible and unreliable sources, they are empowered to make informed decisions and avoid falling prey to misinformation. The talk will cover the benefits of promoting digital literacy among senior people, such as increased social interactions and greater confidence.

Finally, we will provide the methodology and results of the work done by WMCL with the community of senior people. By sharing this with other organizations and communities, we can promote digital literacy and reduce the digital divide among senior citizens.
