Content and data about Portuguese music on Wikipedia is either incomplete or inexistent. In November 2022, Wikimedia Portugal launched a campaign aiming to change that, but it turns out the campaign was a game-changer for this local Wikimedia chapter, spawning new partnerships and reaching new audiences.

The campaign Wiki Loves Música Portuguesa launched in late 2022. The project was developed as an aggregator: on one hand, it would leverage the ongoing Wikimedian residency at NOVA FCSH, opening up the doors to a closer collaboration with its two research centres that specialize in music; on the other hand, the wide scope of the project could enhance other partnerships for Wikimedia Portugal, particularly regarding cultural heritage. Indeed, the initiative sparked multiple partnerships with other institutions, including Portugal’s national public service broadcaster, amongst others, revolutionizing the work at WMPT. In this session, we will share tips and tricks on how a focused campaign can boost your chapter’s activities and visibility.

Collaboration: We hope that our success case can inspire others to replicate and improve the model we designed when building Wiki Loves Música Portuguesa.
Future: Our work is directly tied to the following recommendations of the Movement Strategy: 1. Increase the Sustainability of Our Movement, 8. Identify Topics for Impact, 10. Evaluate, Iterate, and Adapt; We will address these in our presentation.
