Butch Bustria is an Overseas Filipino Worker / Wikimedian (OFW) based in Singapore, He use his spare time in doing Wikimedia projects. His first edit was in December 2005 with a series of edits about the Philippines’ hosting of the Southeast Asian Games. In 2010, he along with 4 others co-founded Wikimedia Philippines, the second Wikimedia chapter in Southeast Asia. In 2017, he joined in organizing the first ESEAP conference in Bali, Indonesia and the first ESEAP Strategy Summit in Bangkok, Thailand. He also part of the core organizing teams of the second ESEAP Conference in Sydney, Australia and is an Event lead for Wikimania 2023 in Singapore. He is also part of the Wikimania Steering Committee since 2020 and the ESEAP Regional Funds Committee since 2021. Singapore is a city-state located in South East Asia, with a rich and diverse culture that reflects its history as a trading hub and a melting pot of ethnicities. Singapore is also one of the most modern and developed countries in Asia, with a vibrant economy, a high standard of living, and a strong commitment to innovation and sustainability. This session aims to provide an orientation about Singapore for the participants of the Wikimania, and to introduce them to some of the unique aspects of Singaporean culture, history, language, religion, cuisine, and attractions.

The Welcome to Singapore Orientation aims to provide an orientation about Singapore for the participants of the Wikimania, and to introduce them to some of the unique aspects of Singaporean culture, history, language, religion, cuisine, and attractions. It is useful for anyone who is interested in or involved in Wikimedia projects related to Singapore or Southeast Asia. The program will be an opportunity for improving Wikimedia projects in Singapore.

The expected outcomes of the program are:

To increase the awareness and understanding of Singapore among the participants of Wikimania To foster appreciation and respect for the diversity and uniqueness of Singaporean culture To enhance the connection and collaboration between the Wikimedia community in Singapore and other countries To inspire curiosity and interest in visiting and learning more about Singapore
