Abstract[edit source]

Poster Category: Wild Ideas Session Time: 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in Singapore

The approach that is proposed in this article is targeting filling gaps within the content of any language version of Wikipedia as well among different language versions. The key point of the suggested approach is imagining Wikipedia as a set of Wikipedias on thematic areas. To facilitate users’ efforts to find exact topics needed to create or update by him, provide flexibility for users to coordinate their efforts on enhancing content of Wikipedia of a certain area: by coordinating, organizing, and monitoring the content of a certain field on Wikipedia, professionals coordinating their work as online as well offline.

Description[edit source]

Wikipedia. An opportunity to preserve a language or a challenge on pushing it out from using?

Experts argue that if the content in a given language isn’t developed enough on Wikipedia, sooner or later it will end up on the endangered language list and eventually cease to exist.

Although Wikipedia is free to edit, anyway one can suggest coordinated way of succeeding the main goal: reliable and rich content
Contributors can join this or simply edit whenever and however they want. Often one wants to be involved on development of the home Wikipedia, but what exactly most needed very hard to explore. Also professionals in certain thematic areas will be happy to review and correct several articles or/and to create one. Just one need to know which ones.

The approach proposed here is aimed at uniting the editors and the enthusiastic initiators of the given field, in an agreed cooperation around the same goal. Develop gadgets for coordination of work around the joint goal and for upgrading current status and upcoming steps to be implemented and delivering roles and suggesting assignments what need to be done.

Portals can serve as a guide for coordinating, organizing, and monitoring the content of a certain field on Wikipedia, as well as the homepage of a thematic encyclopedia. It can bring together experts and interested ones in the field to work in tandem to develop it and make the content credible.

The creation and renewal of portals as well as attraction of contributors into the coordinated work can be semi-automated over time by entering into a dialogue with new comers and the active editors in the given field.
