Abstract[edit source]

Poster Category: Community Initiatives Session Time: 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in Singapore

WikiAfrica Hour is a monthly vodcast activated by Wiki In Africa to support the activities of the WikiAfrica movement and wikimedians across Africa. WikiAfrica Hour intends to: 1. Share current updates, and highlights of Africa Wikimedians activities 2. Interact with guest(s) (if any), and take questions from community members 3. Promote synergy within the Wiki community by discussing topics, projects, constraints, collaborations, and opportunities.

Description[edit source]

The WikiAfrica Hour has been on for over two years now, and has done a lot in promoting synergy within the Wiki community by discussing topics, projects, constraints, collaborations, and opportunities, among other achievements. With over five thousand YouTube viewership, and over 20 informative episodes, we would like to use the poster to share our various achievements with the 2023 Wikimania audience and let people know that we are ready to do more to contribute to the Wikimedia movement in entirety.

Further details[edit source]

Qn. How does your session relate to the event themes: Diversity, Collaboration Future?

Our WikiAfrica Hour episodes touch diverse topics and individuals in the open movement, education, feminism, GLAM, etc. Our audience, interestingly cuts across the movement, and not just from Africa, despite the name “WikiAfrica” Hour. Imagine myself as the WikiAfrica Hour host explaining the various topics we have covered over the years to n audience while standing by the poster, which could even have the audience suggesting a wide range of subjects they feel we could discuss on future sessions. On collaboration, we collaborated with the WMF elections committee for our June 2021 episode “WMF Board: Demystified”…as they we the ones who reached out to us to arrange the episode. We also will be collaborating with the Movement Charter committee for our May 2023 episode, as they suggested we host them to discuss the relevance of the Movement Charter to the African community. All of our episodes one way or the other, address the problems of the future in the Wikimedia space.
