Abstract

[edit source]

In this presentation, we introduce the project Wikipedia Administrative Pages Analytics, a space to analyze, understand and make recommendations and tools to improve the inclusion and maintenance of Administrative Pages across Wikipedia language editions.

In a similar way to other projects aimed a content gaps, its mission is to use analytical tools to raise awareness on the current state of development, maintenance, participation, and inclusion in Administrative Pages, these are all those that are used by Wikipedians to coordinate and govern Wikipedia, ranging from policies and guidelines, help pages, and deletion discussions.

Description

[edit source]

Calcification of policies and help pages has been detected as one of the factors that have led to a community decline in terms of the number of active editors since 2009. Given their long-term involvement and the lack of general indicators, many Wikipedians may not be aware of which policy and help pages have more readership, of their level of clarity, and the last time they were updated.

Analyzing the policy & guidelines pages according to different criteria to generate valuable information to help editors keep them up-to-date or delete them. We will show specific examples of problems and solutions.

Qn. How does your session relate to the event themes: Diversity, Collaboration Future?

Encouraging newcomers and newer editors to contribute to admin pages is key to have an inclusive Wikipedia. Wikipedia Administrative Pages Analytics is a project to measure and improve maintenance and inclusion in Wikipedia administrative pages across Wikipedia language editions.

If we want to make a Wikipedia for everyone, admin pages should be maintained so that they do not become a barrier. At the same time, not only seasoned and veteran editors should edit them, but everyone should be able to improve them at some level. Even if it is just a matter of improving their clarity and readership.
