Abstract & description

Abstract

There are many Arab communities in Wikimedia, and these communities play an important and prominent role in bridging the knowledge gap on Wikipedia and in bridging the gender gap in Wikimedia projects. In this session, we will discuss the role of these communities and how they have contributed to bridging the gender gap and the knowledge gap, and how they can be effectively activated in the future, especially in light of the knowledge challenges.

Description

There are many Arabic Wikimedia communities supported by the Wikimedia Foundation. These communities are active in creating educational programs and editing programs on Wikipedia, and they also organize events. We aim to get more suggestions and input on how to enhance the role of these communities in bridging the knowledge gap and promoting the role of women in Wikimedia projects. Generally, we observe that the percentage of women in Arab communities who contribute to Wikimedia projects is low compared to the number of Arab men who contribute to bridging the knowledge gap and contributing to Wikimedia projects. We will try to find proposals to include more women in Wikimedia projects. I will present the role of Arabic Wikimedia communities in bridging the knowledge gap. In this presentation, I will share research and reports I have written that work to enhance the approach of Arab communities in engaging more women and promoting communication to bridge the knowledge gap.
