Abstract

[edit source]

This session aims to explore the challenges faced by women in the Wikimedia technical community and discuss ways to empower and encourage more women to participate. The session will cover different strategies that can be used to increase the participation of women in technical discussions, coding events, and decision-making processes.

Description

[edit source]

Despite the efforts to encourage more women to participate in the Wikimedia technical community, women remain underrepresented in technical roles. This session will provide a platform to discuss the challenges faced by women in the technical community, such as lack of mentorship, gender biases, and toxic behaviour. We will also explore different strategies that can be used to empower women in technical roles, such as mentoring programs, leadership training, and creating a supportive environment.

The session will include a panel discussion with women who have made significant contributions to the Wikimedia technical community. The panellists will share their experiences, challenges, and insights on how to increase diversity and collaboration in technical roles. We will also have a Q&A session with the audience to encourage active participation and exchange of ideas.
