Abstract & description[edit source]

Abstract[edit source]

This session focuses on the importance of engaging in partnerships in collaboration with the movement in order to reach knowledge equity. Although this session will highlight some of the work done by the WMF Partnerships team in Asia, in collaboration with local affiliates, it emphasizes the need to develop meaningful partnerships in order to create an environment of collaboration, learning, and growth via new ways of engagement. It would aim at outlining the ways in which collaborations and collective action can be used to create collaborative learning and knowledge sharing opportunities that promote the exchange of information and best practices across the region, as well as globally across geographies. Finally, the session would look into the importance of building an inclusive environment that encourages open dialogue and promotes participation from all stakeholders. To do so, we plan to workshop with the participants (based on the audience attending) a hands-on discussion (in a big group or smaller groups) on how they see partnerships as a way to epand kwnoeldge equity in their regions and countries, what are their needs, and how could potentially WMF be of support.

Description[edit source]

The session aims to explore the importance of developing meaningful partnerships in order to create an environment of collaboration, learning, and growth globally, but with emphasis in South East and South Asia. It will discuss the need to create new ways of engagement to support the exchange of information and best practices across the region. The objectives of the session are to: 1. Outline the different kinds of partnerships that have been formed or can be formed in region. 2. Examine the importance of building an inclusive environment that encourages open dialogue and promotes participation from all stakeholders. 3. Identify the barriers to creating meaningful partnerships and ways to overcome them. 4. Discuss how collaborations and collective action can be used to create collaborative learning and knowledge sharing opportunities. 5. Workshop with participants on how they see opportunities for partnerships in their countries and regions, and how WMF and fellow Wikimedians can support the process. In this session, attendees will get the opportunity to learn more about the potential of partnerships to advance knowledge movement in the region and to talk about the possibilities as well as challenges that such efforts pose.
