Abstract & description[edit source]

Abstract[edit source]

In this session, we will introduce you to the current planning of GLAM Wiki Conference, that will take place in Montevideo, Uruguay, November 16-18. You will also be able to contribute to some of the documentation process we are undertaking as part of organizing the event and give us feedback about topics you'd like to see discussed in the conference. At the end of this session, we will encourage participants to workshop ideas on topics they could bring to the conference. We want people to feel inspired and visit us in Uruguay!

Description[edit source]

Wikimedistas de Uruguay, alongside with a Steering Committee supported by Wikimedia Argentina, Wiki Movimento Brasil, Wikimedia Chile & the Wikimedia Foundation, is currently in the process of planning the GLAM WikI Conference in Montevideo, Uruguay.

We want this Conference to be an opportunity to:

  • Identify strategic priorities for the GLAM Wiki communities that promote knowledge equity, diversity and inclusion. In particular, we want to bring experiences from the Global South & connect it with our learnings in the Latin American region, where resource-constrained institutions are the norm and have created innovative ways to do GLAM Wiki partnerships.
  • Exchange and build capacity around GLAM Wiki tools, outreach and collaborations.
  • Reflect, discuss and think of new roadmaps for our existing tools and platforms.

In this workshop, we want to exchange ideas about challenges & solutions that the GLAM Wiki community has been experiencing with, and how we could do a good use of our time together in-person in Uruguay. We expect that as a result of this session, we will be able to help build our documentation towards a roadmap for better collaboration across the GLAM Wiki movement.

People should leave the session with ideas and new connections with the topic.

Qn. How does your session relate to the event themes: Diversity, Collaboration Future?

GLAM Wiki Partnerships have been an essential part of building our movement and helping to establish chapters & user groups, alongside with education programs. However, if we want to build a future together with GLAM, heritage and overall cultural partnerships that reflects the diversity of the world, we need to work in identifying strategic priorities, and make sure they are covered in the Conference so we better understand how our tools need to be serving their needs that these partnerships have.
