I am a student currently studying Systems Engineering in the University of Lagos. I have extensive experience in working with open datasets, incorporating them into data analysis processes and utilizing them for meaningful insights. In particular, I have developed expertise in working with Wikipedia and its sister projects, such as Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons. I have used these platforms to extract data for analysis, to generate data visualizations, and to create custom web applications. I have also been involved in various projects related to open data and leveraging the power of Wikipedia and its sister projects for the public good, such as creating interactive data visualizations for OpenStreetMap and other mapping services. I am confident that my experience and knowledge of Wikipedia and its sister projects will help me facilitate a productive and informative session.

Abstract[edit source]

The session is focused on how to use the vast array of technical tools available through wikidata to enhance the content of other wikipediaand its sister projects. Attendees will learn how to use Wikidata to design more powerful queries, generate lists of relevant links and compile more accurate information.Additionally we will discuss how integrating wikidata technical tools into other wikimedia sister projects can be beneficial in terms of increasing collaboration and improving the accuracy of information .Overall, the session will be designed to provide practical knowledge to editors on how to effectively incorporate open data into their work.

Description[edit source]

Harnessing the Power of Open Data: Incorporating Wikidata Technical Tools into Wikipedia and its Sister Projects, is aimed at helping participants understand and leverage the power of open data in their work with Wikipedia and its sister projects. Our objectives are to provide participants with an understanding of the potential of open data, to equip them with the necessary technical tools to utilize Wikidata in their work, and to explore the opportunities afforded by its integration with Wikipedia and its sister projects.

The session will begin by providing an overview of open data, as well as an introduction to Wikidata and its technical tools. I will then discuss the potential for using these tools for content enrichment and editing. I will also provide an introduction to the related APIs and explain how to access, query and analyze open data.

During the session, we will cover topics such as the basics of open data and Wikidata, the integration of Wikidata into Wikipedia and other sister projects, and how Wikidata can be used to improve the data quality and accuracy of content. We will also be highlighting examples of how to effectively use the data in practice and exploring the potential of the integration of open data and Wikidata with Wikipedia and its sister projects.

The session will be conducted by experienced Wikidata experts and instructors and will provide an opportunity for participants to ask questions and get feedback. We hope this session will maximize the use of open data and Wikidata to create more reliable and meaningful information.

This session will be very vital and important for anyone who is interested in leveraging the power of open data to improve the quality of content on Wikipedia and its sister projects, as well as for those who are interested in exploring the opportunities for utilizing Wikidata for their own projects.

Qn. How does your session relate to the event themes: Diversity, Collaboration Future?

As part of my session on harnessing the power of open data, I will be incorporating Wikidata technical tools into Wikipedia and its sister projects. This will help to foster greater collaboration and diversity across the Wikimedia projects, better enabling us to reach a wider audience and ensure that everyone's voice is heard. My session will discuss how these tools can be used to systematically increase the diversity of content on Wikimedia projects, and how this in turn will help to create a more inclusive, equitable, and vibrant future for everyone.

This session can be seen as a direct reflection of the event themes of Diversity, Collaboration and Future. On one hand, the incorporation of Wikidata technical tools can enable greater collaboration among Wikipedia and its sister projects, thereby enabling more diversity of contributions to the projects. On the other hand, the use of open data can enable more advanced and automated processes, leading to the use of the future of knowledge management. Our session will provide a platform for exploring the diversity of contributions by introducing ways to incorporate Wikidata technical tools into Wikipedia and its Sister Projects.
