Abstract & description[edit source]
Short presentation of the “Decision-Making” chapter of the Movement Charter content followed by an open discussion to gather insights, inputs, and feedback from Wikimania participants to validate and improve the proposed text.
The aim of the session is to present the Movement Charter content published by the Drafting Committee and gather input and feedback from Wikimania participants to either validate or improve the content. The session will help to create clarity and shared understanding regarding the expected global decision-making categories and processes in the future movement.
The session will start with a short presentation of the content by the committee members followed by an open discussion to surface key ideas and insights as well as concerns and observations from the participants. The session will conclude with summarizing the key points and clarifying the next steps on the work of the “Decision-Making” chapter.
The “Decision-Making” chapter of the Movement Charter will provide a definition of global decision making processes, including outline of domains of global decision-making as well as distribution of the global decision making powers between the entities. In the work in progress the Drafting Group has outlined accountability, project, resources, revenue, safety, and tech related areas of global decision-making. The objective of the chapter is to create clarity regarding the global decisions, including who and how to take them in the movement.

Qn. How does your session relate to the event themes: Diversity, Collaboration Future?
The Movement Charter is a Movement Strategy initiative proposed by the recommendation “Ensure Equity in Decision-Making”. The aim of the Wikimedia 2030 Movement Strategy process has been to reimagine the collective future of the movement with a focus on better collaboration across the movement and embracing the diversity of perspectives present across the movement stakeholders. As a result, with the aim to define the future roles and responsibilities, mutual accountabilities, and ways of working in the movement, the Movement Charter is intrinsically linked with the theme of Wikimania this year.
