Short presentation of the “Global Council” chapter of the Movement Charter content followed by an open discussion to gather insights, inputs, and feedback from Wikimania participants to validate and improve the proposed text.

The aim of the session is to present the Movement Charter content published by the Drafting Committee and gather input and feedback from Wikimania participants to either validate or improve the content. The session will help to create clarity and shared understanding regarding the expected future global governance body of the movement, i.e. the Global Council.
The session will start with a short presentation of the content by the committee members followed by an open discussion to surface key ideas and insights as well as concerns and observations from the participants. The session will conclude with summarizing the key points and clarifying the next steps on the work of the “Global Council” chapter.
The “Global Council” chapter of the Movement Charter will provide the definition of the future governance body of the movement, including the governance domains allocated to the new entity and its connection with the existing entities and their respective responsibilities. The objective of the chapter is to define in a clear and concise way the role and responsibility of the future global governance body, including its set up and maintenance.

Qn. How does your session relate to the event themes: Diversity, Collaboration Future?
The Movement Charter is a Movement Strategy initiative proposed by the recommendation “Ensure Equity in Decision-Making”. The aim of the Wikimedia 2030 Movement Strategy process has been to reimagine the collective future of the movement with a focus on better collaboration across the movement and embracing the diversity of perspectives present across the movement stakeholders. As a result, with the aim to define the future roles and responsibilities, mutual accountabilities, and ways of working in the movement, the Movement Charter is intrinsically linked with the theme of Wikimania this year.
