Abstract & description[edit source]

Abstract[edit source]

Wikimedia Cloud Services, like Toolforge, Cloud VPS or PAWS are an essential piece of how content is introduced, curated, patrolled, learned from and maintained in most wikis. During this session, a brief history of these services will be shared, along with an outline of current status. Then, an open conversation will be facilitated to discuss the future of such projects.

Description[edit source]

The Wikimedia Cloud Services project includes well known platforms like Toolforge, PAWS and Quarry and services like Cloud VPS and Wiki-replicas. For many community members, they are essential piece of how they interact with different wiki projects. And in fact, an increased number of edits to wiki projects are made by software (tools, bots, etc) that ase hosted in some of the Cloud Services platforms.

The goal of this session is to have an open discussion on the status of the services, starting with a brief summary of how we got here. In particular, we will celebrate the many changes that happened since 2019 (last in-person Wikimania) in the Wikimedia Cloud Services ecosystem, with main topics being Toolhub, Toolforge, PAWS, Quarry, Cloud VPS and friends.

The open debate will also cover how to better leverage current technologies and where the platforms should be moving next in terms of functionality.
