Abstract

Digitalization/Photography Workshops. Training the Lamu community on the best preservation technics that will be needed for the preservation of documentary heritage. The training workshops will be done at the Lamu fort Museums Library in collaboration with Lamu county heritages department. The training will focus on practical work like the digitalization of documentary heritage records. The digitalization work will be done through the photography of the heritage records with the aim of making the digital collection accessible on open access through Wikipedia.

Description

Lamu Fort Museum Library is housed at the Lamu Fort Museum. The Fort Museum is a branch of the National Museum Of Kenya. This session will be a training Workshop, with the Lamu community on the best preservation technics that will be needed for the preservation of documentary heritage. The training workshops will be done at the Lamu fort Museums Library in collaboration with Lamu county's culture and heritage department. The training will focus on practical work like photography of documentary heritage records. The aim of the program will be to make the digitalized records accessible on the open-access on Wikimedia links. The objectives of the session is to: i) To involve the community in the digitalization processing ii) To educate the community on the best digitalization technics in the preservation of documentaries’ heritage. iii) To digitalize the documentary heritage collected for preservation on the open access iv) Brainstorm the community on the importance of the preservation of the records on Wikimedia repositories.

The digitalization and the photography work of the documentary heritage records for the wiki will make the digitalized photos accessible on open access. We shall involve the community in the photography of the records.
