Abstract

[edit source]

Galleries, Museums, and Libraries have an excellent source of rich content of Punjab Culture, architecture and history. Under this workshop we will be demonstrating how to collaborate with GLAM/UNESCO institutions - understanding the basic fundamentals to why a partnership with Wikimedia can be beneficial for a GLAM institution would go a long way in helping you plan your partnership successfully. We will be further exemplifying our learnings with the case studies of UNESCO (how to identify heritage to cover and contact UNESCO), and Heritage GLAM to ensure our audiences can learn the theory in practice from our experiences with partnerships with Government GLAM institutes and UNESCO.

Description

[edit source]

This workshop will be in two parts - demonstration with case studies and learnings; activity for our audience - we will engage the audience in the groups to imagine and plan the scenario where they want to propose a partnership proposal to the institution of their interest. Partnerships means there is a clear benefit to parties on both end. It is essential you prepare your proposal in advance keeping in mind the purpose of the partnership, what you plan to attain out of the collaboration. Does the institute possess content resources that could be of interest in any Wikimedia project? Such content material might also encompass scientific databases and journals, newspapers, literature, educational works, catalog entries, or historic artifacts, photographs, graphics, or scans of objects. Is the content material already accessible in digital format? If so, to what extent? - Identifying potential partners, - Initial communication, - Presentation, - Partnership proposal, - MOU, - Identifying obstacles, - GLAM Staff training and meetings, - Infrastructure and funding for project, - Integration of data from institution to Wikimedia projects, - Involving community in the projects post the partnership

A lot of these aspects are closely involved from the planning phase to the final execution. We will be discussing these aspects in our workshop and endeavour to ensure our workshop participants can understand the strategy part and successfully plan partnerships (cultural, media and education) in their respective regions and focussed organizations and individuals (Open access advocacy). The session will be an interactive one, where we will be asking the audience questions about what kind of partnerships they want to work on and what narrative they wish to build with their proposals. There can be an activity session after the presentation and Q&A.
