Abstract & description[edit source]
Abstract[edit source]
Wikimedia Australia developed a skin for MediaWiki which looks like more like a website than your average wiki. In this talk we will show the features of the WMAU skin, and show the power of MediaWiki when used in ways different than Wikipedia.
Description[edit source]
Making a wiki that is beautiful is a challenge, but we might have solved it. The WMAU skin for MediaWiki looks more like Wordpress than a Wiki, but underneath it is the same technology powering Wikimedia projects.
The WMAU skin has a blog feature, with pages written using visual or source editor, and an events calendar. Images from Wikimedia Commons can easily be inserted into any page, and templates add extra customisation.
The Wikimedia Australia website uses the WMAU Skin and a number of extensions, including Cargo, WikiSEO, and UnlinkedWikibase. This talk will explain how these are used and demonstrate the templates and modules we have built.
Wikimedia Australia member Sam Wilson will give you a tour of the Wikimedia Australia website, then Wikimedia Australia Communications and Project Coordinator James Gaunt will demonstrate how to add a new blog post and event.
