Abstract & description
[edit source]Abstract
[edit source]WikiKata is an edit-a-thon focusing on adding indigenous language words into Wiktionary. There are many potentials for Wiktionary that many people miss out among other Wikimedia projects.
Description
[edit source]WikiKata is an edit-a-thon that helped a lot in ensuring that indigenous languages are preserved in line with the UNESCO’s International Decade of Indigenous Languages. The aim of the session is to call everyone to give an effort in preserving local languages especially indigenous languages and the importance and benefits of having these languages preserved in their national language’s Wiktionary. Collaboration is crucial especially with the indigenous communities and associations.
Further details
[edit source]Qn. How does your session relate to the event themes: Diversity, Collaboration Future?
Diversity fits the best. Many indigenous languages can be preserved through here with the help of indigenous communities and associations. For Collaboration, we need to collaborate with indigenous associations to inform the indigenous communities on this edit-a-thon. For Future, this will give hope to the communities to have their own Wikipedia edition.
Qn. What is the experience level needed for the audience for your session?
