Abstract & description[edit source]

Abstract[edit source]

Organically established Wikimedia governance infrastructures have a lot of loopholes that can be utilized to fulfill the need for a WikiDemon. This session is intended for aspiring Wikipedia devils who are passionate about conquering the mighty Wikimedia while being aware of its strengths and weaknesses.

Description[edit source]

The diligent Wikimedia knights don't think the ambitious Wikimedia Devils will find it simple to take over Wikipedia and other Wikimedia initiatives. Let’s prove them wrong. Conquering Wikimedia requires years of intense preparation and in-depth knowledge of the movement..

The great Sun Tzu says, “So in the case of those who are skilled in attack, their opponents do not know where to defend. In the case of those skilled in defense, their opponents do not know where to attack.” “To advance irresistibly, push through their gaps. To retreat elusively, outspeed them.“

Because the movement is so decentralized and independent, Wikimedia is unsure of where to defend; because they themselves are not fully aware of their own existance. They're only beginning to understand themselves through the Movement Strategy 2030, and they're doing most of the work for us in the MS2030; we simply need to evaluate, discover, and use the gaps. Pushing through their gaps would be a simple assignment since finding and defending their gaps would cost them some precious years. The master devil will discuss one of the gaps where we might "advance irresistibly" in this session. If you're still interested in engaging in wicked deeds after the session, come form a devil gang with us and use our target's own platforms to uncover loopholes in the wikiway. Let's cross our fingers for the best.

Hail the Wikimedia Devil!!

Further details[edit source]

Qn. How does your session relate to the event themes: Diversity, Collaboration Future?

There are some amazing collaborations happening to shape the future of the movement. I think some collaborative work is also needed to find the gaps in the wikimedia governance too. Diversity is one of the strengths of Wikimedia, and I'll show in the session how "diversity-wash" (similar to green wash) especially in underrepresented communities, is making our community vulnerable to risks and posing a threat to its long-term sustainability. I believe, to ensure a sustainable future of the movement, we need collaborative approach in finding the gaps of our governance structures.
