I have been a Wikimedian since 2005, and have been involved in many different aspects of the movement through the years, and language technology and support for various language communities has been a common theme throughout. Since 2006 I have been a member of the Wikimedia language committee that oversees and approves new language editions of Wikimedia projects. Abstract

The Wikimedia Incubator is an important but often overlooked part of the movement. This talk will showcase some of the improvements that have been made in the past year, and highlight some ideas for the future.

Description

The Wikimedia Incubator is where one has to go to start a new language version of an existing Wikimedia project. Several language editions of all Wikimedia projects share one wiki, and that has its challenges. To deal with this, there is a dedicated Wikimedia Incubator extension that adds a lot of customization, as well as several on-wiki and off-wiki tools customized for the Wikimedia Incubator.

This talk will showcase some of the improvements that have been made in the past year, such as:

• Fixing years-old bugs in the extension
• Interwiki gadget to allow adding interwiki links from Wikidata
• "AddPrefix" gadget that handles prefixes (like "Wp/xx/") for users automatically, making editing more similar to editing an official wiki
• Mobile adaptions and adjustments
• Scripts to export wikis once they are approved
