Abstract & description
[edit source]Abstract
[edit source]As the title says, this is a proposal to host a Wikimedia-wide quiz that is curved well and is accessible for all, yet challenging for the best. There will also be some questions of a general scope. Examples for all difficulty levels and types can be provided on request. Questions will focus both on Wikimedia in general and MediaWiki, but not on a single wiki, to maximise diversity.
Description
[edit source]It should be noted that this proposal does not fit into any of the given "tracks".
The quiz is more likely to breadth-first with a focus on reasoning over merely trivia, with sufficient depth to stretch the strongest people. It is estimated that there would be about 16 - 20 questions, and calibrated to aim for a (roughly) normal distribution with an overall mean to be ~50 - 60% and a standard deviation of ~15-20%. New or inexperienced users will be able to get a non-zero score, and learn a lot about Wikimedia in the process, while the experienced users will be challenged with some creative questions designed to stretch even the best in the group. As a result everyone can attend this event, irrespective of their experience level.
What I'm ideally looking for is this to be a yearly event, with some sort of award for the highest scoring individual in the quiz.
Further details
[edit source]Qn. How does your session relate to the event themes: Diversity, Collaboration Future?
Diversity: the quiz is literally designed to cater for a wide range of people. Some of them may just be getting started in the movement, while some may be self-proclaimed Wikimedia experts. The quiz is designed to bring them together - usually, we see that these groups are disjoint and do not interact together. The main "future" aspect is the hope for this to be a yearly (fun) event.
This is not an event designed with collaboration in mind; the event is purely individual.
Qn. What is the experience level needed for the audience for your session?
Everyone can participate in this session
Qn. What is the most appropriate format for this session?
