Abstract & description
[edit source]Abstract
[edit source]This WikiCafé session will introduce the concept of WikiCafé, a new approach to onboarding new developers to the Wikimedia technical community. The session will cover the benefits of WikiCafé, how to organize and run WikiCafé, and best practices for getting new developers involved in the Wikimedia technical community.
Description
[edit source]Onboarding new developers to the Wikimedia technical community can be challenging. Many new developers struggle to find their way around the community and may feel overwhelmed by the complexity of the technical infrastructure. WikiCafé offers a new approach to onboarding new developers that is more social, interactive, and supportive.
WikiCafé is a casual, in-person or online gathering of new and experienced developers in a relaxed environment. It is a place where new developers can meet experienced developers, ask questions, share their experiences, and learn about the Wikimedia technical community in a friendly and non-intimidating environment. WikiCafé is not a training program, but rather a social gathering that aims to build connections and foster a sense of community.
This WikiCafé session will cover the benefits of WikiCafé, how to organize and run WikiCafé, and best practices for getting new developers involved in the Wikimedia technical community. We will also discuss the challenges of running a successful WikiCafé and how to overcome them.
By the end of the WikiCafé session, attendees will have a clear understanding of the WikiCafé concept and the benefits it offers to new developers. They will also have practical tools and tips for organizing and running a successful WikiCafé.
