Abstract: Wikimedia Sverige has been working on developing a Wikibase instance, to share structured, machine-readable information about our work with the global community. We invite others to brainstorm and experiment with modeling data about the movement's activities in a Linked Open Data form.
Wikimedia Sverige has been working on developing a Wikibase instance, MetaBase (https://metabase.wikibase.cloud/), to share structured, machine-readable information about our projects, reports, presentations and activities with the global community. Information about a chapter's work has traditionally lived on Meta-Wiki and possibly its own wiki, but the platform is so extensive that it's not always easy to find what you're looking for.
That's why we're experimenting with a Linked Open Data platform that is both easy to use for the staff and accessible to the general public. With Wikibase, questions such as what collaborative projects have we carried out together with Swedish art museums in the last five years? How many edit-a-thons focused on Wikidata have we organized? What reports have been written about our work and where can you read them? can be answered with a simple query. We're hoping that our experiences will be useful for the global community and that more Wikimedia organizations decide to join us.
In this session, we will together look at the possible ways of modeling the internal knowledge of a Wikimedia organization, using WMSE's experiences and similar initiatives as a starting point. What needs to be included? How can we lower the thresholds? Is Wikibase a suitable platform for this sort of data, and if so is a separate instance or Wikidata better?
