An experienced workshop organiser (and Wikimedia Foundation Board Chair) will unveil these "secret" tips

Editing workshops are being organised in every corner of the world all the time, in all languages, but the information sharing among the organisers is not as developed. Thus a lot of people organising workshops are reinventing the wheel, make avoidable mistakes, get frustrated themselves, and create a bad impression on partners. There would always be things out of our control – one may plan to use the Content Translation tool for a workshop, and a few hours before the event there are some technical issues with it, and the carefully crafted workshop plan is ruined. But there are things one can do to prepare as much as possible before the workshop, keep in mind during the workshop, and implement after the workshop.

One of the very often cited reasons for less successful workshops is account creation limit from one IP address, IP range blocking etc. Exploring tips about this will be especially featured, and this is (sadly) more relevant to emerging communities.

The objectives for this session are:

  • share tips about effective editing workshops, especially about IP address account creating limits
  • discuss other issues people face when conducting workshops, look for immediate way to resolve them, or take the discussion to other venues
  • collect and document best practices for easier translation and sharing
