Description

[edit source]

Throughout history, so many texts have deteriorated and broken due to time and natural disasters. One of the ways to avoid the loss of this text is by digitization to make the text's content still available, though the book will be broken beyond repair.

Although digitization has already successfully preserved the text, the digital copy of the text can't be searched on the internet cause the OCR still wrongfully reads the text in it or can't be read by it. Fortunately, with Wikisource, we now can invite volunteers to correct the mistake or liability by doing two-step verification by doing Proofreading and Validation on the Website.

There are a few volunteers who have done the digitization in Indonesia such as Komunitas Wikimedia Yogyakarta who have done the digitization on Javanese books (https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Indonesia/Dana_Wiki/GSF22_Laporan_Komunitas_Wikimedia_Yogyakarta) and ongoing grant which been done in Philiphine by digitizing Local Laws in Philiphine (https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Programs/Wikimedia_Community_Fund/Rapid_Fund/Philippine_Local_Laws_and_Ordinances_Digitization_Project_(ID:_22025708))

There is also ongoing grant which done by Komunitas Wikisource Indonesia by uploading Indonesian Public Domain Book which have been done in five cities in Indonesia which can be acessed here: Grants:Programs/Wikimedia Community Fund/Rapid Fund/Pelatihan Hukum Hak Cipta Indonesia serta Pengunggahan Naskah di Wikisource Indonesia menggunakan Wikimedia Commons, Wikisource Indonesia dan Wikidata (ID: 21944112) or 維基小霸王 did on (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Library_back_up_project) by uploading Chinese books in Wikimedia commons.

Our goal is to eventually give people the ability to digitize, upload, and index public domain books in Wikimedia projects. We hope, that this knowledge can be shared with all affiliates or individual volunteers who wanted to preserve their own public domain books. We willl brought our own device to do the digiitazion by using book scanner.
