Add topicQuestion about Rephoto Walk
[edit source]Hi Kulttuurinavigaattori
I will be attending Wikimania and am interested in participating in the Helsinki Rephoto Walk on 20 August. I have been to Helsinki several times (I'm a big fan of Finnair), but I've never been anywhere else in Southern Finland. I'm particularly interested in visiting Aland, and I like riding on ferries. I also don't have a lot of time. As a local, what do you think about the following possible itinerary:
- 19 Aug: leave Stockholm by ferry
- 20 Aug: arrive Helsinki 10 am, participate in Walk, take train to Turku in the evening, stay on s/s Borea
- 21 Aug: take ferry to Mariehamn, overnight there
- 22 Aug: take afternoon ferry back to Stockholm

Hi Bahnfrend, looks like a great plan! Our small group is returning back from Stockholm on Monday night via Turku and then we take morning train to Helsinki and arrive there Tuesday at 10.25. I don´t know what are the prices for you, but usually it is less expensive to buy both ferry tickets for the same route (via Turku) than single tickets. You have two carrier options, we are taking the Tallink Silja. Looking forward to meeting you! --Kulttuurinavigaattori (talk) 06:10, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- That's a good suggestion. Problem is that I also want to spend a night in Aland. Additionally, if I take the ferry to Helsinki, I get to see Helsinki and approaches from the water, and I don't have to get up so very early. Another advantage is that I can experience both the ferry operators, Silja there and Viking back. I could possibly travel Stockholm-Turku-Helsinki-Mariehamn-Stockholm instead of the itinerary above. But the arrival time in Mariehamn on that itinerary is about 4.00 am.
- Anyway, with a shared cabin Stockholm to Helsinki, it looks like the cost for the whole trip above would be about 68 euros plus the train fare Helsinki to Turku. That seems pretty good compared with the fares for ferries from Perth to Rottnest Island and back (about 40 euros for about 70km in total). Bahnfrend (talk) 08:06, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- Ok, you seem to be pretty well set up with the schedules. One note, if you have heavy luggage with you, I would suggest to take it to the store lockers in Helsinki railway station before the walk. You can take a tram from Katajanokka harbour to the station and walk back to the Senate square, not a long way. Our destination where we spend the afternoon is Oodi library, is right next to the railway station, so you can pick up your stuff and jump into the Turku train. Cheers!--Kulttuurinavigaattori (talk) 09:56, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- And if you are staying in a hotel in Stockholm, ask them to store your bag and pick it up afterwards. And take a smaller bag for the Helsinki-Turku-Maarianhamina trip.Kulttuurinavigaattori (talk) 10:00, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Kulttuurinavigaattori. I will be leaving today on the Silja Serenade, and will meet you at the statue tomorrow at 11 am. To make myself easily identifiable, I will bring my green Wikimania shirt with me (not sure whether I will be wearing it - I haven't tried it on yet, and it may not be big enough).
