Title
[edit | edit source]CC.0 licence, what's the issue to loose attribution and copyleft during Wikimédia project participation ?
Description
[edit | edit source]When Richard Stallman started the free software movement by creating GNU, the first operating system under free licence, He was very careful that his work was not taken over by others to build private derivatives and put them under copyright. If this had happened, it would have been the end of the free software boom, from which the freedom to use wiki software would flow directly, blocking the possibility of Wikipedia to be born and exist from a very limited budget.
Today we see the CC.0 license appear within Wikimedia projects. First in Wikidata and then in the Wikimedia Commons. This novelty does not come without raising some questions from users:
- Am I ready to lose the authorship of my work?
- Am I ready for actors to get my work back to make non-free products and put it under copyright. Products that I may one day have to pay for to have access when I have contributed free and anonymously to enrich the data they use?
As the CC0 is actually applied only on structured data in Wikimedia commons as in Wikidata, the answers to theses questions could be provided by a better understanding of what's means structured data with more information about the legal context turning around.
