2019:Advocacy/Copyright advocacy mapping
This is an Accepted submission for the Advocacy space at Wikimania 2019. |
Title
[edit | edit source]Description
[edit | edit source]This session will engage in a participatory process to map where copyright reform is happening, who is engaged in it, what issues are being promoted by Wikimedians and what resources might be needed to better accomplish positive change. This workshop will be linked to similar mapping exercises being undertaken by two other large global networks of copyright experts and advocates -- the Creative Commons Copyright Platform and the Global Expert Network on Copyright User Rights.
To join the network and contribute to the mapping, fill out the short survey at:

Relationship to the theme
[edit | edit source]The Workshop will promote free knowledge and sustainable development goals through copyright reform, including reforms to copyright exceptions that permit fair access and use of works to create and use information. This will allow people to have a better idea of who is doing what in the movement. Thereby allowing for better coordination and knowledge sharing.
Session outcomes
[edit | edit source]We will create a database and meta page mapping where copyright reform is taking place, what issues are being considered and which Wikimedia and other public interest advocates and organizations are participating in reform debates. Another outcome is to encourage a culture of updating the page among participants for ongoing mapping and knowledge sharing.
