Repertory of women printers in Italy from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century
(Italian) Repertorio delle tipografe in Italia dal Cinquecento al Settecento)
In 2019 we proposed a workshop at the University of Genoa to develop a research on women printers in Italy between the 16th and 18th centuries. In our country, the articles, monographs and articles related to this topic are not numerous. In fact, the bibliography consists of only four intellectual works. It is clear that the topic is not so developed, and the academic community is not interested in investigating women who worked in typography in the past. For this reason, we could improve a Wikipedia-based encyclopedic database with the help of students, researchers and history book enthusiasts. The goal of the project is to create Wikipedia pages where the store data - obtained from repertoires and OPAC - on Italian women printers.
Each person involved in the project will build a special Wikipedia article on a specific printer. Starting from printed literature, everyone will improve the biography and the bibliography with the data, the details with all the information.
In the end we will have the opportunity to make a general map of the presence of women in the context of the press of the Italia
We are sure that the project is a concrete example of work on gender history. Meanwhile it is a good practice to serve women and girls to know a part of their lost history.
Only the recovery of information lost or not taken into account is possible to improve women's empowerment and give them more intellectual capacity to understand the presence of women in general Western history.
