From Wikimania

This email went out to hackathon participants on August 6 who had registered by August 1 / this is for documentation purposes & for folks who register later to have access to the info.

Wikimania Hackathon Participants,

If you are receiving this email, you are registered for the Wikimania Hackathon in Stockholm. We are looking forward to welcoming you!

The Wikimania Hackathon is part of the Wikimania pre-conference and is an annual gathering for many Wikimedia technical communities. It will be taking place on Wednesday August 14th and Thursday August 15th 2019. Participants are welcome to work on any projects that they choose, however if you would like some pre-event inspiration our main focus areas are: GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums) and Structured Data on Wikimedia Commons  & Small Wiki Toolkits!

We will also have a structured newcomer orientation, project matching and mentoring matching series of sessions for folks who would like help finding projects and people to work with on Wednesday morning after the hackathon opening as well as a Technical Help desk open throughout the hackathon where you can go for guidance and help.

Three first actions to prepare for the hackathon:

  1. Add your sessions to the program! As of today, the program is now open for scheduling and all participants can add their own sessions by following the guidelines.
  2. Join our Wikimedia Hackathon 2019 Stokholm Telegram group. This is a good place to go for technical support, logistics questions and social communications: t.me/wmhack and t.me/wmhack19stockholm for announcements from organizers (this will be important as the hackathon is spread across multiple buildings). Anyone who is intending to stick around the Wikimedia Development Community should get on our IRC channels. The freenode IRC network is one of the main ways we communicate with each other all year round.  During the hackathon the main channel is #wmhack.
  3. If you already know what you are going to be working on, have a skill to share, need help on a project, or are planning to organize a session please add your project or session to the hackathon Phabricator board:https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/project/board/3922/ If you need help using Phabricator, let us know!

Otherwise, there is more information about the hackathon on the main event page, we will continue to add details in the coming days. You will receive one or two more emails in advance of the hackathon and one follow up email after the hackathon. If you would like to unsubscribe please respond to this email with “unsubscribe”.

As a reminder, all participants of the hackathon are agreeing to follow the Friendly Space Policy and the Code of Conduct. Please make sure you are familiar with both before the event starts.

Thanks!
