2019:Poster session/A Wikipedia of One's Own
This is an Accepted submission for the Poster space at Wikimania 2019. |
Description
[edit | edit source]With this poster, I want to explore a speculative design idea: what if you had a Wikipedia of your own, one that you could edit without any external review, quality control or need to achieve consensus. What changes would you make?
I envision a project based on the Kiwix software that would create "A Wikipedia of One's Own", handed over from hand to hand, and edited in privacy and secrecy. How would this Wikipedia diverge from the public one? I am interested how such a project could shed critical insights on our core concept of a peer produced, commons based encyclopedia.
Through the poster, I want to gather feedback on this idea. This speculative design could possibly become reality!
