2019:Poster session/FindingGLAMs: collecting information about the world’s cultural heritage institutions
This is an Accepted submission for the Poster space at Wikimania 2019. |
Description
[edit | edit source]We present the project FindingGLAMs. Through this initiative, Wikimedia Sverige, UNESCO and the Wikimedia Foundation aim to bring online as much freely licensed information about the world's cultural heritage institutions as possible.
We are working to collate a truly worldwide database of cultural heritage institutions and their collections on Wikipedia. We will empower cultural organisations to share their knowledge and content with the world through collaboration, training, documentation and case studies. The project will lay the groundwork for long term and sustainable collaboration between cultural organisations and the Wikimedia movement.
We are working towards achieving this goal by:
- Collating a database of the world’s GLAM institutions on Wikidata
- Crowdsourcing among GLAM professionals to fill in gaps in the data
- Developing and fostering long-term partnerships with GLAM institutions, universities, experts, and others.
- Supporting GLAM institutions in sharing their resources on the Wikimedia projects.
On our poster we will outline what we aim to achieve, what has been done, where we see the initiative going over time and where you can help.
