2019:Poster session/Interactive Poster Data Quality in Wikidata
This is an Accepted submission for the Poster space at Wikimania 2019. |
Description
[edit | edit source]As a complement to the talk submission that we provided before (title: Data Quality in Wikidata) and as an extension to a poster that Lydia presented last year at Wikimania 2018, we would like to submit a poster to provide an interactive element that allows Wikimania participants to state their Wikidata data quality problems, wishes and needs during the whole poster session. We would like to print a large poster providing a visual summary of the classification of tools for data quality in Wikidata and identified gaps, that at the same time offers a large blank space for people to add ideas with post-its.
Furthermore, while we stand close to our poster, we would like to use the opportunity to do a live demo of the tools that we highlight in the poster.
Relationship to the theme
[edit | edit source]This session will address the conference theme — Wikimedia, Free Knowledge and the Susta inable Development Goals — in the following manner:
As stated in the related talk submission, Data Quality can be interpreted as an orthogonal topic to the SDGs listed in the conference’s theme. Data in any of the domains of the SDGs needs to be of high quality in order to be consumed and used, let the purpose be to analyse gender inequality via Wikidata item descriptions (SDG 5 Gender Inequality), implement apps that help people gain knowledge in a specific domain (SDG 4 Education), or visualize a map to show the evolution of the climate disaster (SDG 13 Climate Action).
Session outcomes
[edit | edit source]At the end of the session, the following will have been achieved:
We will hopefully gather a large and diverse collection of ideas coming from Wikimedia community members, that will allow us to further elaborate on the roadmap for the near future of data quality in Wikidata. The results will be documented on our ongoing WikiProject page on Wikidata.

Session type
[edit | edit source]Each Space at Wikimania 2019 will have specific format requests. The program design prioritises submissions which are future-oriented and directly engage the audience. The format of this submission is a:
- Other
Interactive Poster
Requirements
[edit | edit source]The session will work best with these conditions:
- Room:
Poster Hall
- Audience:
It would be desirable to have basic understanding of Wikidata’s data model and workflow. However, we would like to be inclusive and invite people from other related Wikimedia projects. So, time permitted, we could provide a flash introduction to what people need to know before we dive into the details of data quality in Wikidata.
- Recording:
We are in agreement with having this poster captured in pictures and shared under a free-license.
