Description
[edit | edit source]With Wiki goes Caribbean (a project from Wikimedia Nederland) we try and improve, update and extend the information on the (Dutch) Caribbean and Suriname on several language Wikipedia's, Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata. Together with GLAMs, universities and governmental departments on Aruba, Curaçao, Bonaire and with cultural heritage organisations in The Netherlands we are improving the content on all of these wikiprojects by uploading audio files, videos, maps and images to Wikimedia Commons. Next to improving the content on the Dutch Caribbean we also joined forces to set up a new Wikipedia in the Papiamentu language (a language spoken by about 250.000 worldwide).
Wikimedia Nederland organised a 4 week video course (via Skype) as an introduction to the Wikiverse. Locally we organised orkshops, presentations and in-house training for several cultural heritage and educational organisations like the National Library of Aruba (present at Wikimania via a scholarship provided by WM NL), the National Archives of Curaçao, the University of Curaçao, the University of Aruba and the Archivo Boneiru (archive of Bonaire). We would like to present our tips and tricks for a succesful collaboration in organising capacity building, providing knowledge and training to this part of the Kingdom of The Netherlands.
