The Wikispeech project aims to create an open source text-to-speech tool. Wikispeech will make the information on Wikipedia, and sister projects, accessible to a greater audience, such as people with visual impairments, dyslexia, that are illiterate or that learn better from listening.
With this poster we will give a summary of Wikispeech to date and outline our next focus area The Wikispeech Speech Data Collector. Our goal is to create tools that will allow for the collection of speech data for languages where free resources are lacking. This will make it possible to create new speech technology tools, such as text-to-speech and speech recognition, for languages where those are missing. We will explain what tools we are going to create, how the resulting speech data can be used and how volunteers can contribute.
