2019:Transcription/Wikisource 2030: Let's Dream Together

[edit | edit source]Wikisource seems to raise more and more interest and some funders and organizations might be interested to help it on the technical level. I believe it would be interesting to identify some key features that are missing for Wikisource or areas that Wikisource could not target for technical reasons. Some possible examples of features could be "have a VisualEditor customize for the book/manuscript transcription task" or "get a powerful pipeline for voice materials transcriptions". Wikimania seems a good place to start the discussion before moving it online.
To avoid the discussion being trapped in some usual and long debates, we should probably limit the amount of time spent on each topic.

This session will address the conference theme — Wikimedia, Free Knowledge and the Sustainable Development Goals — in the following manner:
This discussion aims at finding development goals for a Wikimedia project, in order to bring technical innovation (goal 9) to a platform aiming at providing materials for quality education (goal 4).

Some important missing features or process are identified with, if time permits, a first attempt at prioritization. They could be used as a seed for online discussions in order to build a small list of important projects that could help Wikisource growth.

[edit | edit source]Each Space at Wikimania 2019 will have specific format requests. The program design prioritises submissions which are future-oriented and directly engage the audience. The format of this submission is a:

- Room: Round-table seating
- Audience: People who know Wikisource and are interested in its future
- Recording: Seems to be difficult. Collaborative textual recording seems more adapted.
