Abstract

[edit | edit source]

On May 16th, 2020 in the early stages of the COVID-19 Pandemic global quarantine and shut-downs, members of the Wikimedia Movement created a time capsule of images and impressions of the moment checking in with one another and documenting their sentiments at the start of this time of isolation. They also began during this time a 24 hour global editathon spanning the world from New Zealand to the Philippines to India to Nigeria to Italy and Sweden, the Caribbean to the US, documenting the time and leaving messages in their mother tongues to the world.

This session looks back at that event, the Global Wiki Check In and its development.

Session Outcomes

[edit | edit source]

Participants will leave with a snapshot of the Global Wiki Check In and its creation and development as a Wiki time capsule and 24 hour inter-hemisphere editathon.

I'm planning to attend this session live!
