2021:Submissions/Hack4OpenGLAM 2021 - Co-creation event for learning, problem-solving and aligning action
Speakers[edit | edit source]
Abstract[edit | edit source]
Hack4OpenGLAM is a co-creation event for working towards Open Access to cultural heritage at the Creative Commons Global Summit 20–24 September. The event brings together content communities, GLAM professionals, advocates of open cultural heritage, digital creators, and tools or platform developers – from newcomers to experts – to learn, work, and create with one another.
The event took place for the first time in 2020 at the CC Summit. AvoinGLAM (a joint GLAM working group of Wikimedia Finland, Open Knowledge Finland, and Creative Commons Finland) is arranging it again in 2021. The event consists of a workshop day, followed by three independent working days during the summit days, and a celebration event after the summit.
Hack4OpenGLAM focuses this year on knowledge equity – highlighting knowledge of individuals, communities, and cultures who have been left out of the spotlight of history, decolonizing cultural historical collections, and acknowledging responsible ways of sharing information online openly.
The work has already started on the community platform with dozens of registered participants and projects so far. It is facilitated by three facilitators and communicated by seven regional and thematic ambassadors from the OpenGLAM / Creative Commons / Wikimedia / Mozilla communities.
Session Outcomes[edit | edit source]
In this lightning talk we will do our best to squeeze the most interesting aspects of the Hack4OpenGLAM event into the talk. We hope to inspire creators in cultural heritage projects to join the event and collaborate with unexpected new partners. Furthermore, we have many volunteer activities to take part in, such as translating messages about the event.
