Abstract

Program report for the Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom pilot

During this session, we will explore the impact of the Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom pilot project and present ways to adapt and implement it in other communities through a roundtable discussion and a workshop. Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom was a collaborative project led by The Wikimedia Foundation Education Team in partnership with the Wikimedia MA UG, Wikimedistas de Bolivia UG, PhilWiki Community UG, and the Department of Education Pasay City. The pilot resulted in a three module teacher’s guide and associated assets translated and contextualized for the linguistic and cultural contexts of three different countries in addition to providing synchronous and asynchronous training for 600 secondary school teachers.

Session Outcomes

• You will learn about the planning and development of the Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom program and how it supports the development of media and information literacy skills among secondary school teachers.
• You will identify opportunities for adapting the program to a variety of cultural and linguistic contexts.
• You will be able to craft an application for the Training of Trainers program to implement Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom in your country.
