Abstract[edit | edit source]

An exploration of m:Wikispore, an incubator for new genre wikis of Wikimedia Cloud Services, and the quest for an open process for new sister projects for the Wikimedia movement. A look at the genre experiments that have been done at Wikispore and other platforms, the life cycle of project ideas, and the potential for innovation in free knowledge including oral and other marginalized sources unrepresented at Wikimedia's existing projects.

An unconference group session for m:Wikimedians Innovating New Genres will follow 10 minutes after the conclusion of the lightning talk, on Floor 1 of Building 6.

Session Outcomes[edit | edit source]

  1. How to use Wikispore, and integrate work there with Wikidata and other Wikimedia projects.
  2. How to start a "spore" on a new topic or genre on Wikispore.
  3. How to address the overall gaps in the free knowledge ecosystem thorough more expansive use of sourcing and notability.
