2024:Program/Edit-a-thon 2024 in Katowice
Session title: Edit-a-thon 2024 in Katowice
- Session type: Meetup / performance / event
- Track: Wild Ideas
- Language: en
This session will be a edit-a-thon for Wikimania participants and inhabitants of Katowice.
Description
[edit | edit source]As residents of Katowice, we would like to organize an Wikipedia edit-a-thon during Wikimania 2024 for everyone. The idea of this edit-a-thon is to edit articles in Wikipedia and add references in libraries situated near famous places in Katowice. We learned from organising a beating of Guinness record in Warsaw that access to library collections can help editors in their work. In Katowice there are many interesting types of libraries, such as public, scientific, academic, musical, law and mining. We would like to connect specific library collections with topics of articles and references. Additionally, being near libraries could be a chance to visit neighborhoods.
- How does your session relate to the event theme, Collaboration of the Open?
We want to invite local libraries to organise small edit-a-ons in their reading rooms and help with finding proper resources. Organising this event will be a collaborative project of librarians, Wikimedia educators, and teachers.
- What is the experience level needed for the audience for your session?
Everyone can participate in this session
