Information

Roles

This page hosts requests for rights access on the Wikimania wiki. The following roles are able to be granted, and by which existing role

administrator
  • account creator
  • IP block exempt
  • translation administrator
bureaucrat
  • bot
  • interface administrator
  • administrator
  • bureaucrat
steward (from Meta)
  • transwiki importer
  • importer

All roles, and the respective rights, can be seen at Special:ListGroupRights, though it is not envisaged that those other rights would normally be required at this wiki.

Process

At this stage, the overarching management of the wiki is within the control of the respective organising committee or the parent chapter for the forthcoming Wikimania, which for 2019 is Wikimedia Sweden, and it is envisaged that they will designate the appointment and removal of the administrators and bureaucrats from their committees, or from volunteers assisting in the management of the wiki.

Rights may be granted on either a temporary or an ongoing basis.

Requests for rights should be made below with an explanation of your reason for requesting the rights, and if you have experience in that role, and where.

Brackenheim[edit source]

Hi, I would like to request sysop & TA flag. I had such flags on wm2015, wm2016, wm2017, wm2018 and I want to help on this wiki as well. Maybe I also can help as bureaucrat? Kind regards, --Brackenheim (talk) 13:26, 28 February 2019 (UTC)

Yes check.svg granted for translation admin.  — billinghurst sDrewth 10:52, 2 March 2019 (UTC)
Thank you! This wiki is quit new, so do you think I could get sysop flag one day? I would like to translate parts of MediaWiki:Sidebar ... --Brackenheim (talk) 12:26, 2 March 2019 (UTC)
The current process is that the organising Chapter/organising committee is setting the parameters for rights assignation; so WMSE currently is controlling assignations of the higher rights.

With regard to the sidebar, I believe that I am up-to-date with the terms, and there is a method in place to collect terms through Wikimania:Mediawiki pages with translations .  — billinghurst sDrewth 00:34, 3 March 2019 (UTC)

Wittylama (talk)[edit source]

As Program Chair for 2019, I’m requesting Administrator rights please. I also had this last year for the same purpose. Wittylama (talk) 11:30, 23 April 2019 (UTC)

Approved. Eric Luth (WMSE) (talk) 12:47, 23 April 2019 (UTC)

Quiddity[edit source]

Requesting Interface-admin per Billinghurst's suggestion, and so that I can stop pestering him to do things for me :) I'm fully-familiar with the level of caution that needs to be used when utilizing these rights. Quiddity (talk) 07:43, 12 May 2019 (UTC)

Revi[edit source]

I used to have admin/TA on wikimania17 and wikimania18wiki for combating spam/vandalism/helping with Translate. Now that this wiki will be the permanent home for future wikimanias I think we can avoid future re-adminships on each wiki / each year by getting an admin/TA for once (and for all)? — regards, Revi 11:44, 27 June 2019 (UTC)

@Eric Luth (WMSE): Can you have a look at ^ and Quiddity's one? — regards, Revi 12:30, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
I will approve your and Quiddity's. Eric Luth (WMSE) (talk) 12:38, 5 July 2019 (UTC)

Revibot[edit source]

Revibot needs the bot flag to fix double redirects without bothering RC. Global bots are not enabled on this wiki so I need the bot flag to do it manually. — regards, Revi 20:19, 21 July 2019 (UTC)

Support. Double redirects drive me crazy, and will be a problem on this wiki as we settle into, and create and correct, the structure here. Quiddity (talk) 06:12, 8 August 2019 (UTC)

Deryck Chan[edit source]

I'm volunteering to be an administrator and translation administrator for this site since it's looking like this wiki will last multiple Wikimanias. I am an administrator of the English Wikipedia and Cantonese Wikipedia, and was a bureaucrat, administrator, and translation administrator of the Wikimania 2013 wiki, so I'm quite comfortable with housekeeping tasks of Wikimania conference wikis. I have attended 7 past Wikimanias and intend to go to Stockholm this year too. Deryck Chan (talk) 22:15, 7 August 2019 (UTC)

Support. Helpful and trusted user. Quiddity (talk) 06:10, 8 August 2019 (UTC)
