I figured I should add some links to previous wiki-related conferences. Below are the one's that I've found or been suggested to add so far.

I think these can give some very good inspiration on what we should expect to do for the spaces this year.

Commons categories[edit source]

To make it easier for people to upload I propose that we start building a category tree already. Last Wikimanias it has been built during the conference which has led to redundant work being done and suboptimal discoverability due to undercategorization of files. Here is a suggestion for a starting tree, feel free to comment.

Looks awsm Jan! Love the initiative. My idea is that we could try working a bit more on the categories that aren't tied specifically to the programme or dates. We need to make sure that we try to group similar topics as much possible. For example, "posters", "graphics" and "videos" might be under "Wikimania 2019 by media types" (or something like that). What do you think?
Gotta say that I would never have guess that "Wikimania 20XX food" would be a regular category. :-D

Yes, by media types is certainly an option and have been used on some previous Wikimanias. If you think it is a good idea, let's use it. Ainali (talk) 17:22, 11 June 2019 (UTC)

Idea regarding clear information about video recordings[edit source]

To be really clear that a session is recorded we should have some kind of standardized and easy recognizable sign that we both can put up outside the session room on the door(s) and inside as well. And perhaps we can have some sort of symbol or colour coding in the schedule as well so that people even can plan around it if they want. Ainali (talk) 18:06, 16 June 2019 (UTC)

Perhaps a text like "This session is being video recorded" and some nice graphics. If there is 15 rooms, then we would need 30 + extra for rooms with several doors. Preferably they should be easy to take down and put back up again (or turned around), for sessions that are not recorded. I know there is a laminator at WMSE that could be of use to make them last the entire conference. Ainali (talk) 19:21, 16 June 2019 (UTC)

Navigation templates on Commons[edit source]

I created (and added) c:Template:WikimaniaYear on all Wikimanias on Commons to make it easier to navigate and find media from different year. Now I wonder if it would also be useful to do the same for some subcategories as well. The first I come to think of is presentations and videos, but one could do it for more categories that have been repeated over the years. What do you think, which ones should be prioritized?
