Hackathon
Wikimania-hackathonet 2019 vil finne sted onsdag og torsdag 14.–15. augast 2019, under førkonferansen til Wikimania 2019 i Stockholm.
The Wikimania hackathon is a working event with limited capacity where technical Wikimedians from around the world meet to co-work on engineering problems. Unlike other Wikimania events, this event is specifically meant for individuals with technical backgrounds or who are involved in specific wiki-related technical projects. We also encourage attendance from members of underserved communities who are looking for technical help for their wikis / projects. If you have any questions please email the hackathon organizers!

Program / Schedule
- Program Schedule your sessions now! Scheduling has opened as of 6 August, 2019.
This Hackathon is mostly a working event where attendees sit in large rooms working together on their projects. Any sessions that we have are organized un-conference style. This means that the majority of sessions are added to the program just before or during the event itself as a need for them is identified. Once we open the program for scheduling (during the second week in August) any and all hackathon attendees are welcome to schedule their own hour long sessions in one of our four breakout rooms.
If you miss the hackathon opening and don't know where to start: Come visit us at the hackathon help desk.
Projects
You can add any projects you are planning to work on, or check-out and comment on other people's hackathon projects on our event's Phabricator work board: phab:project/view/3922/
Check back as more projects are added to this work board the closer we get to the event.
Hacking table directory, please add your project location here!
Focus Areas
Participants are welcome to work on any project of their choice, however to help those who would like some inspiration we also provide some structured focus areas.
- GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums) and Structured Data on Wikimedia Commons coding and tooling are a focus area at the Wikimania 2019 hackathon. Read more on the dedicated info page.
- Small Wiki Toolkits: Enable people to create templates, Wikidata generated info boxes, simple bots and tools to help them with curation and maintenance of content in their wikis
If you are attending the Wikimania Hackathon please add your sessions and projects to our Phabricator workboard.
You can create a task in Phabricator for your session and project, or you can add the #Wikimania-Hackathon-2019
project tag to an existing task. If you have a Phabricator account (if not, create one!) and are interested in attending a specific session, feel free to subscribe to the associated task by clicking "Subscribe" in the sidebar.

Newcomer Program
Hackathon participants should have a technical background or be interested in contributing to the design, documentation or translation of a technical project. We will have a newcomer track that will help to introduce people to Wikimedia Tech and also a program to help connect those who don't know what to work on with a project or person who can help to get your oriented.
More details about newcomer support and mentoring can be found at 2019:Hackathon/Mentoring
Volunteering at the Hackathon
The Wikimania hackathon is an event run for and by its participants, and is therefore running its own Volunteer Program. Everyone attending the hackathon can take as much personal responsibility to co-create the event and improve it as they like. Below you will find some pre-defined ways in which you can help make the event better for everyone. If none of these volunteer roles sound like a good fit for you, you can find small ways to help. A core principle of our hackathons is that if you see a problem, be part of the solution to fix it. If someone has a question, help them answer it. If someone looks lost, help them find their way.
More details about the volunteering program will be coming soon! If you would like to help in any way, please email the organizers.

The hackathon showcase will be an opportunity for 30 hackathon participants to present their hackathon projects to all Wikimania participants. Presentations should be concise and understandable by non-technical Wikimania participants. The hackathon showcase will be held on Sunday afternoon during the main Wikimania conference and any hackathon attendees with a finished project are encouraged to present.
