This is a quick FAQ for answering the most basic questions about the Wikimania Hackathon.

A hackathon, specifically a Wikimania Hackathon, is an event where people with different skills meet and work together on common goals. These events focus on technologies and projects powering Wikipedia and other wiki projects. Participants have a chance to work together with other developers, designers, and Wikimedians, in a productive, fun, and supportive environment. The technical community usually works towards goals such as working on bots, scripts, tools, documentation, design, and other collaborative efforts to be showcased at the end of the event.

Quand cela aura-t-il lieu ?
The Wikimania Hackathon 2023 will take place from Tuesday, 15 August 2023 to Saturday, 19 August 2023 at the same venue as the main Wikimania conference.
Quel est le format ?
The Hackathon will feature two distinct tracks:
- Newcomer Track: An introduction to Wikimedia Tech featuring intro sessions and beginner-friendly workshops, along with a program to pair novices with projects or people who can provide orientation.
- Unconference Track: One or more breakout rooms will be available on most days for sessions that are added to the program just before or during the event itself as a need for them is identified.
A main hacking space will be available throughout the event where attendees can sit and work on projects together.
What do I need to bring to participate?
Participants typically need a laptop or similar device for the hackathon. More importantly, an eagerness to collaborate and contribute to Wikimedia projects is essential. Registration for the main Wikimania event includes access to hackathon participation.
